#smallchange is an evening of art, music & community.
Brooklyn’s finest DJ duo, .Doc.Rez. x Tanhands (DRXXTH), and Donna Cocktail Club (Donna) have teamed up to present #smallchange – an evening of art, music and community. With the City constantly changing and recognizing the importance of having an active role in the cultural evolution of our community, these two influencers created #smallchange for our City’s smaller players and dreamers to come together, support one another and cultivate the change we want to see in our community. #smallchange launched June 4th with a showcase that previewed the works of five New York City artists (Netz, Foote, Tuyay, Hula, and Hair Barrels). Each artist will go on to have a solo or collaborative show at Donna this summer. DRXXTH will present sets to compliment the artists’ work and with the help of Donna’s carefully crafted libations progress the night into a celebration of our community.
The inspiration for #smallchange comes in large part from Killer Mike, of Run The Jewels, and his response to the political issues facing our nation today. Consistent with his constructive criticism regarding today’s society, is a constant call for individuals to take responsibility, engage in their local community and be part of the change you would like to see. Today, New Yorkers are far too familiar with the fear mongering of gentrification and the often-echoed complaints that things were better before. #smallchange is here to say the hell with that! The City will change, it’s alive, it’s inevitable and that’s one of the reasons why we all moved here. #smallchange represents a group of individuals who refuse to dwell on how great things once were, and instead choose to celebrate how great things will be.
